FUNDRAISING
The Scout Group is a charity which is entirely funded by subscriptions, donations and fundraising. Our running costs include £35 per week rental of the halls and approximately £25 per head each year payable to the Scout Association, some of which covers central costs but most is spent on insurance cover for our activities. We aim to recover gift aid on subscriptions and donations where possible. Our aim is for subscriptions to cover running costs.
A key part of Scouting for all the sections is activities outdoors, in Cubs and particularly in Scouts we aim to include camps and other nights away activities in our programme. Running camps requires a fair amount of equipment (tents, cooking kit, axes and saws etc). In 2008 we re-introduced regular camps after a number of years and realised that we had 1 serviceable tent and not much other useable equipment and in 2009 we began to re-invest. As at January 2010 we have tents to take around 25 Cubs and 20 Scouts to camp, however we expect to have around 30 Scouts by June 2010 (allowing for those moving from Cubs over the next 6 months). We would like to be able to buy the following equipment:
The Shopping List
Kitchen tent (to store food and equipment and allow cooking in bad weather etc) - around £800
Scout patrol tents - 2 at £800 each
Miscellaneous (cooking equipment, tarpaulins, stoves, lamps) ... £?? (just don't know yet)
Funds raised so far this year:
The bagpack at Christmas raised just over £1,036, the collection at Sainsbury's raised £820 and Round Table donated £290 which was the proceeds of another collection.
We may get the opportunity to bagpack at Sainsbury at some point, but would need everyone to help with this.
Other ways we can raise funds...
Fundraising Group...
At the AGM we had some really good discussions on fundraising and some great ideas. We now need to establish a fundraising group to take these ideas forward (so that the leaders who run the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts each week don't have to do all the work on fundraising too). Please can you consider helping the Scout Group in this way (perhaps with one event in the year?). Please email groupexec "at" 122inverleithscouts.org.uk to offer to help in this way.
Some other things we can all do include:
Easyfundraising...
122nd Inverleith Scout Group is registered with www.easyfundraising.org.uk You can use this website when you are shopping on-line to designate 122nd Inverleith Scouts to receive a (small) percentage of the value of your purchase. You pay the same price for your goods, but the Scout Group gets some money too!
Please do use this if you can - you will need to go to www.easyfundraising.org.uk, search for the Scout Group (use the "find a cause" tab, and then enter "122" in the search box, you should get 122nd Inverleith as an option) then register. You can then either shop by searching for the product that you want, or go to the retailer that you want to use (in the Categories list, choose A-Z of retailers).
Thank you to those who have use Easyfundraising over the Christmas period, we have raised £15.96 so far and it hasn't cost you a penny!
You can access our page directly at www.easyfundraising.org.uk/inverleithsg
Easysearch...
We have been trying out a search engine, Easysearch, which is linked to the Easyfundraising site. We have completed 18 searches and raised 9 pence. It seems to bring up very similar results to Google and is powered by Yahoo, Bing and Ask. It has a unique address for our group which is http://inverleithsg.easysearch.org.uk/ (9 pence may not seem like much, but if we each used it for around 20 searches a week we would add over £100 to funds each year...)
Please give it a try and lets raise even more money for the Scout Group.
